Overall Goals
To develop an intelligent mobile robotic system equipped with an onboard AI-enhanced computer vision module that can be flexibly used for fish analytics, including assessing counts and feeding status, in three representative Hawaiian aquaculture sectors, including onshore production systems, artifical estuaries, and open-water mariculture sites.
Objectives
1. Develop a mobile robotic system composed of a commercial underwater robot and imaging-based edge AI devices. Meet the aquaculture experts to further refine the fish analytics tasks that will be most productive for the aquaculture industry and guide the development of the AI algorithm in Objective 2.
2. Design robust AI algorithm by domain randomization of data for specific fish analytics tasks, e.g., assessment of fish counts and feeding status.
3. Evaluate the system in the three representative sectors and further iterate the system and Al algorithm.
4. Disseminate and transfer the technology.
