Overall Goal
The overall goal is to develop BSFL meals with improved nutritional values by employing solid state fermentation to increase protein content while reducing fat and chitin contents, by employing GRAS edible microorganisms like Aspergillus oryzae and Yarrowia lipolytica.
Objectives
1 (Year 1-2): Convert excess fats and chitin in BSFL meal into edible proteins.
2 (Year 2): Evaluate the fortified BSFL meal as a protein ingredient in aquaculture feeds.
3 (Year 1-2): Disseminate project findings and technology transfer.
