Aquaculture production: Hawaii 2019 aquaculture sales totaled $83.2 million, up 9 percent from 2017. Algae contributed $32.7 million and accounted for 39 percent of the total sales, down 7 percent from 2017. Ornamentals accounted for $2.64 million of total sales.
Aquacultured species: Over thirty aquatic plant and animal species are being raised for research or commercial production for food. Some of these include freshwater prawns, marine shrimp, seaweeds, tilapia, catfish, carp, oysters, clams, rainbow trout, salmon, abalone, mahimahi, koi, moi (Pacific threadfin), snails, frogs and microalgae.
